NMPA’s 2025 Annual Marine Propulsion Expo Delivers Innovation, Education & Industry Excellence
The 2025 Annual Marine Propulsion Expo (AMPE) made waves in Fort Lauderdale this October, bringing together propulsion professionals, engineers, technicians, and manufacturers for three days of inspiration, innovation, and connection. Hosted at the Renaissance Fort Lauderdale Marina Hotel, this year’s event proved that the marine propulsion community is stronger—and more forward-thinking—than ever.
A New Era for NMPA
This year’s Expo marked an important milestone as the association officially unveiled its new identity: the National Marine Propulsion Association. The rebrand reflects a natural evolution beyond propellers to include the full spectrum of marine propulsion technologies by unifying builders, repair specialists, engineers, and innovators under one banner.
As NMPA President Mike Jones shared during his welcome remarks, “Our new name reflects not only where we’ve come from, but where we’re going—toward a more inclusive and innovative future for everyone who powers the marine industry.”
Inspiring Voices & Industry Insights
The stage was packed with industry leaders and technical experts who shared their expertise and passion for progress.
- Ben Sorkin, CEO of Flux Marine, delivered an engaging keynote on the electrification of marine propulsion and the engineering journey that took Flux from concept to cutting-edge electric systems.
- Dr. Solas and Neil Lin of Solas Propellers offered an inside look at the science behind precision propeller design and the company’s newest product innovations.
- Industry experts David Juhlin (Michigan Wheel), Stew Foster (Prop Masters), Doug Peck (New England Propeller), Terry Dyer (SurfacePrep), and Jody Bell (Osborne Propellers) shared real-world insights on performance, repair, business strategy, and evolving technology shaping today’s marine propulsion marketplace.
Celebrating Excellence
A highlight of the event was the NMPA Awards Presentation, where the Association recognized members whose dedication and craftsmanship continue to propel the industry forward.
Baumann Propellers received the 2025 Founders Award, honoring over six decades of leadership, innovation, and family legacy in marine propulsion.
Stew Foster (Prop Masters) and Kevin Mitchell (Frank & Jimmie’s Propellers) were presented with the President’s Award of Excellence, celebrating their long-standing contributions, technical mastery, and service to the industry.
Powered by Partnership
The success of AMPE 2025 was made possible through the generous support of sponsors including Sharrow Marine, Henry H. Smith Co., Solas, Western Branch Metals, ACME Propellers, Turning Point Propellers, SurfacePrep, Michigan Wheel, Tri County Propeller, PowerTech! Propellers, VIF, and Hydrasearch. Their continued commitment to innovation and collaboration keeps the marine propulsion community moving forward.
Charting the Course Ahead
As the event concluded, optimism for the year ahead was palpable. Between the rollout of digital certification initiatives, continued education programs, and a stronger-than-ever network of members, NMPA is poised for a bright future.
The 2025 AMPE reminded everyone why this community is so unique—rooted in craftsmanship, powered by technology, and united by passion.
